Kersey is home to the highly regarded and sought after Platte Valley School District, that provides a high-quality K-12 education. Students have a wide range of educational opportunities and the district is well known for meeting high academic standards and competing at a high level in sporting and other extra curricular activities.
Large ranches, cattle feeding operations, dairies and other farms, surround Kersey. 4H and Future Farmers of America (FFA) are not just clubs, but a way of life here. The Platte Valley School District (PVS RE-7) is the home to the only middle school chapter of FFA in Colorado. Each year the agricultural department, run by students and staff, puts on their own stock show “Little American Royal” that boasts attendance from all over the country. The district is not only well versed in the ways of farming, but it distinguished in test scores, business, family and consumer science, as well as music. This year Platte Valley High School received the Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Award for consistently high student growth in English Language Arts, English Language Proficiency and Math. FBLA had 19 teams and or individuals place in the top 5 in this year’s District 1 Leadership Conference, they have also been recognized for student achievement in the Stock Market Experience program sponsored by the Colorado Council for Economic Education. FCCLA brought home four first place and two-second place scores in the STAR competition at the National Qualifiers this year. Finally, the music department has been represented in most of the Colorado auditioned groups such as the Patriot League, All State, CU Honor Band among others. In addition to academic successes, the PVS RE-7 community makes people a priority. Teachers, students, and staff are constantly doing things to benefit those around them, such as the United Way coin drive done by FCCLA and the Elementary School. During second semester the entire district participated in Angel Tree, Santa Cops, and a Weld County Food Bank Food Drive. The mission statement of the district is “Pursuing Excellence For All” they make their goal not only to be excellent in academics, but they work towards pursuing excellence as people too.
